Set up the Series Skill

About 10 minutes, and Claude does most of it. Everything here is public, so you can check it suits your computer before you buy.

What you need

WhatWhat it's for
Claude Code with a paid Claude plan (Pro or Max) or a pay-as-you-go Claude API keyRuns the skill. With a plan, use the desktop app's Code tab or the claude terminal app. With an API key, use the claude terminal app: when it first asks how to sign in, choose the option with API usage billing, and add credit to that account first. You pay for what you use: an episode takes a few hours of the skill working, so the usage adds up, and we haven't measured what one episode costs, so set a spending limit in your API account.
Windows 10/11 or macOS 12+About 2 GB free and any modern processor. No GPU needed: our code draws every frame, and no AI model makes the pictures.
An ElevenLabs accountThe narration, with its stock voices. Needed for every episode in this version: without your ElevenLabs key, the skill can't build one. Free to try; you need a paid ElevenLabs plan if you'll publish commercially. We're testing a free voice that runs on your computer, but it isn't in this version, so plan on ElevenLabs. If the free voice passes our tests, it will come as a free update.
Nothing extra for music or sound effectsThe skill writes an original score in code and has its own sound-effects library made in code, plus free Pixabay sounds you can choose to fetch. No music service or extra account.
Node.js, Python and ffmpegThe engine's free tools. You don't need to install them yourself: Claude does it in step 3, with your OK.
  1. Get your files

Right after you pay, Polar emails your receipt with a link to your order page. It gives you two ways to get the skill:

    • The zip, the easiest: click "Series Skill zip" to download it.
    • GitHub, best for updates: connect your free GitHub account and accept the invite to the private arclab-studio/series-skill repository.

The order page also has the button to join our Discord, where the #help channel is.

  2. Put it where Claude Code finds it

The skill lives in a folder called arc-lab-series inside your skills folder, with SKILL.md directly inside it:

    Windows C:\Users\<you>\.claude\skills\arc-lab-series\SKILL.md
    Mac ~/.claude/skills/arc-lab-series/SKILL.md

    With the zip

Easiest: let Claude do it. Open Claude Code and type:

Unzip arc-lab-series-v1.0.0.zip from my Downloads into my Claude skills folder, so the file ends up at .claude/skills/arc-lab-series/SKILL.md in my home folder

    Or by hand:

    • Windows: right-click the zip and choose Extract All. Replace the whole suggested path with %USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills, then click Extract. Don't keep Windows' suggested folder name, or the skill ends up one folder too deep.
    • Mac: double-click the zip. In Finder, choose Go, then Go to Folder, type ~/.claude, open the skills folder (make it if it isn't there), and drag the arc-lab-series folder into it.

    With GitHub

You need git. On Windows, install Git for Windows from git-scm.com; on a Mac, the first time you type git it offers to install it. The repository is private, so git asks you to sign in to GitHub the first time. You can also ask Claude to clone it and help you sign in.

One line. On Windows, in PowerShell:

    git clone https://github.com/arclab-studio/series-skill "$HOME\.claude\skills\arc-lab-series"

    On a Mac, in Terminal:

    git clone https://github.com/arclab-studio/series-skill ~/.claude/skills/arc-lab-series

Then start a new Claude Code session (a new chat, or reopen the app), so it sees the skill.

  3. Let Claude finish the setup

Make an empty folder for your series, open Claude Code in it, and type:

set up the Arc Lab series skill

Claude runs the setup check, tells you what's missing (Node.js, Python, ffmpeg, the drawing library) and installs it with your OK. You're done when it says "ready to make episodes".

  4. Add your voice key

When Claude makes your series folder, it asks you to paste your ElevenLabs key into a file called .env. You'll find the key at elevenlabs.io, under your profile, in API keys.

The key stays on your computer. The skill never prints, shares or uploads it.

  5. Make your first episode

Give Claude your idea in a sentence or two:

Make me a series: a kid and their robot run a night-shift repair shop, and viewers vote each episode.

    Then you approve three times:

    • The words: the series bible and episode 1's script.
    • The look: the voices, then the characters and sets.
    • The draft: every shot, with captions, sound and an original score, checked frame by frame, including that nothing sits under the app's buttons.

After your OK, Claude renders the final, makes cover options and writes the post text. Expect a few hours of the skill working for a 30 to 40 second episode, mostly without you. You post it, and the votes decide episode 2.

Getting updates

With GitHub: ask Claude to "update the Arc Lab skill". With the zip: download the new zip from your order page and replace the arc-lab-series folder. Your series live in their own folders, so nothing of yours is lost either way.
